Author Biography
Abby Barry Bergman
Dr. Abby Barry Bergman served as an elementary school principal for 29 years enjoying involvement in both public and private educational settings. Initially a kindergarten teacher, he has maintained an active interest in early childhood education, science education, and school administration. He has also served as an educational consultant for school systems, educational product development corporations, and publishers. He co-authored The Complete School-Age Child Care Resource Kit and authored the highly successful Learning Center Activities for the Full-Day Kindergarten, both published by Prentice-Hall. He has also co-authored science education textbooks and science activity books for Prentice Hall. He has written numerous articles in the area of school administration and science education which have appeared in professional journals. He was honored for the curriculum renewal process he developed in the National Science Teachers Association′s "Search for Excellence in Science Education" program. Also, he received the Administrative Excellence Award from the Bergen County Administrators Association. Currently, Dr. Bergman is the Regional Science Coordinator for a consortium of school districts in New York State.Abby received a B.A. degree (cum laude) from Hunter College and the M.A., Ed.M., and Ed.D. degrees from Columbia University′s Teachers College. Judy PowersAt the beginning of her career, Judy Powers taught at the elementary level for ten years. As both a teacher and a policy board chair of a New York State Teacher Center, Judy conducted trainings in the areas of mathematics and classroom management. During her 16 years as an elementary principal, Judy continued to conduct district and building-based training and led schools based on a continuous improvement model. Judy now is a consultant to educational organizations. She has coordinated a mentorship program and now coordinates regional professional development, oversees curriculum development, coaches elementary administrators and conducts staff development in the areas of leadership and curriculum development in both public and private schools.Michael L. Pullen Michael L. Pullen currently works as an elementary school principal in upstate New York a capacity he has served in for the past five years. Prior to becoming an elementary principal his teaching career saw him work in urban, suburban, and rural districts in upstate New York. As a principal, Michael has led several district curriculum initiatives and had made regional presentations about science curriculum development.Michael received his B.A. from St John Fisher College, his M.S. form Nazareth Collegeand his Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) from the State University of New York at Oswego. He and his wife currently reside outside of Rochester.
